TRIOS Share works by connecting your TRIOS Wireless to your practice’s standard Wi-Fi network. You then mirror the screen from the original PC that came with your TRIOS to all the other PCs in your practice using the 3rd party app, Splashtop.

The difference with other solutions
Within months of releasing TRIOS Share, another IOS company came out with a copy solution but with a few key differences. Chiefly, the cost!
Their solution requires one of their proprietary Wi-Fi hubs in every room that you want to use their scanner in. But more importantly, you also need to have a PC powerful enough to run their scanner’s software in every room too.
TRIOS does also require a powerful PC to run its software. These types of PCs generally are expensive. But imagine having to buy one for every room just to be able to use your scanner in every room. That gets very expensive.
How your wireless intraoral scanner works - some background
When you scan, your wireless intraoral scanner sends a tremendous amount of data back to the PC. 3Shape has discovered how to pre-process this huge data transfer first within our scanner. That enables TRIOS to send the crunched data via standard Wi-Fi (i.e., 5 GHz). And because we can do that, it helped us in developing TRIOS Share.
TRIOS runs on ordinary Wi-Fi. That also makes it possible for us to implement the TRIOS Share screensharing concept with Splashtop. Because most practices connect all their various computers in their practice via standard Wi-Fi, using a screensharing app like Splashtop is simple.
The big difference: 60 GHz versus 5GHz
In contrast, the other IOS solution needs to use 60 GHz Wi-Fi to send its data. Afterall, a lot of data needs a big network. Another challenge with 60 GHz is that it cannot go around or through people and walls etc. It needs a clear path between the scanner and the Wi-Fi hub you attach to every computer.
It also means that whatever PC is next to the Wi-Fi hub must be powerful enough to process all the data and run the scanning software. That is the major difference.
Our vision for optimal wireless freedom
3Shape believes that if you really want wireless freedom in your dental practice, you should be able to scan from every PC in your practice optimally.
But we do not see it being practical to have a power PC in every room sitting alongside of your normal practice PC that might be running your PMS. We do offer that as a solution like the competitor’s solution, but we know it gets expensive.
