Copenhagen, August 10, 2015 – 3Shape and Planmeca have created an integration, which enables 3Shape users to import digital impressions and case information from the Planmeca PlanScan intraoral scanner and use these for design in 3Shape Dental System™. The second part of the integration allows 3Shape CAD/CAM users to output the CAD design files to a Planmeca PlanMill 40 milling machine in a fully integrated workflow.
3Shape Dental System™ CAD/CAM software presently accepts open (STL) digital impression files from most commercial intraoral scanners. The integration with Planmeca will enable 3Shape users to receive both the Planmeca PlanScan intraoral scan file as well as case information. Case information includes margin line definition by the dentist and the case order form – additional data that improves technical and clinical validation for both the dentist and lab.
Using 3Shape CAD/CAM software, dental professionals can design dental restorative components such as crowns, veneers or bridges, and then manufacture the components using the Planmeca PlanMill 40 milling machine. The designs can be made on scans from 3Shape lab scanners, 3Shape TRIOS, Planmeca PlanScan or third party scanners.
“3Shape teaming up with Planmeca opens the door to more business opportunities and restorative treatment options for both dentists and dental labs. Dental professionals can now take advantage of a broader range of restorative materials for their patients. We are very proud to be driving these integrations, partnerships we believe will improve patient care and digital dentistry,” says Flemming Thorup, president and CEO, 3Shape.
Jukka Kanerva, Vice President – Planmeca CAD/CAM solutions said, "We have always believed in an open system approach where dental professionals have the freedom to use what they are most comfortable with in order to provide patients with the best care. We look forward to working with other companies like 3Shape, to improve the user and patient experience. In the end, a happy patient is what matters most and we have confidence that this integration with 3Shape will work towards that goal."
