Copenhagen, April 20, 2023 – 3Shape, a global leader in 3D scanners and CAD/CAM software solutions, has received this year’s 2023 Red Dot Award for its 3Shape TRIOS 5 intraoral scanner and the 3Shape F8 lab scanner.
The latest awards highlight 3Shape’s reputation for innovation and design. Since its launch in 2000, the company has received the prestigious Red Dot Design Award eight times.
"3Shape is very proud and honored to be considered by the Red Dot jury. The award recognizes the meticulous craftsmanship and design innovation that go into making every 3Shape solution. Throughout our history,3Shape has created solutions that help dental professionals better care for their patients while revolutionizing the way a dental solution could look and feel like. The Red Dot celebrates our scanners’ uncompromising form and function, and in the words of one dentist, look cool too!" says Eskild Hansen, Chief Designer, 3Shape.
TRIOS 5 delivers unprecedented intraoral scanning simplicity, esthetic Danish design, and effortless ergonomics.
The sleek, pen-grip TRIOS 5 weighs only 10.6 oz, including the battery and scanner tip (300 gm), and is only 10.5 inches long. (26.6 cm)
TRIOS 5 is hygienically sealed up to its battery inlet with no cracks or crevices that can accumulate soil or contaminants. A sapphire glass window encloses the FDA-cleared scanner tip to create a sturdy microbial barrier between the patient and the scanner. The TRIOS 5 wand can also function as a pointing UI, so doctors never need to touch the PC screen.
TRIOS 5 introduces AI technology that minimizes misalignment and distortion in 3D models to make scanning more predictable for practitioners. A color changing LED ring and haptic sensory feedback guide dentists while they scan to make digital impression-taking smoother and faster.
Since its launch in late 2022, TRIOS 5 has been named the "Best New Imaging Product" Cuspie Award 2023, the "High Technology Launch of the Year" by both Dentistry magazine and the Institute of Digital Dentistry as well as "Intraoral Scanner of the Year."
The F8 lab scanner received this year’s Red Dot’s Best of the Best Award which is the highest distinction in the competition and awarded to pioneering designs.
More than 10,000 hours of work went into the design of the F8 to create a marriage of form and function. Its asymmetry gives motion to the design, while its openness highlights the ergonomics and usability of the scanner. From the smallest corner radius to the visual balance of its round motifs, the FB combines the clarity of its round shape and precision of an aluminum finish to celebrate Scandinavian design heritage.
The F8 introduces game changers like dual model scanning that enables the scanning of two objects at once. The F8 design is open with no roof or door so it is extremely fast to use and can scan bigger and taller objects like dental articulators. Its innovative design eases the workflow for technicians in fast-paced lab environments, where every second counts.
The distinction “Red Dot” has become established internationally as one of the most sought-after seals of quality for good design. In order to appraise the diversity in the field of design in a professional manner, the award breaks down into three disciplines: the Red Dot Award: Product Design, Red Dot Award: Brands & Communication Design and Red Dot Award: Design Concept. Each competition is organized once every year.
